St. Paul couple find naked, drunk intruder in their home

A St. Paul couple heard the sound of someone in their home in the middle of the night and found a drunk, naked stranger, police said.

After the couple checked around their house in the 1700 block of West Minnehaha Avenue and determined it was not their adult daughter they had heard, they found the man in a bathroom area, said Sgt. Paul Schnell, police spokesman. He had taken his clothes off — they were found wet — and left them by the front door, Schnell said.

Police were called about the disturbance at 3:51 a.m. Saturday. Officers noted the man appeared disoriented and, when they tested him for alcohol, he had a high blood-alcohol concentration, Schnell said.

The man, identified as Theodore Gary Lundeen, 22, "indicated he did not have any idea of where he was or how he got there," Schnell said. Lundeen, of St. Paul, lives about 2 1/2 miles away.

Neither the couple nor their daughter knew Lundeen, Schnell said.

Police cited Lundeen for trespassing and booked him into the Ramsey County jail.

I'm glad Lundeen wasn't a violent criminal.

http://www.startribune.com/local/48680082.html

MOORHEAD, Minn. - Police say a Moorhead man shot and killed an intruder who walked into his unlocked apartment.

Lt. Tory Jacobson says the resident confronted the man and yelled at him to leave. He says when he didn't leave, a fight ensued. The resident then allegedly got his shotgun, which went off during a struggle.

It's a shame the victim was arrested for defending himself, but it looks like there won't be charges. Now, what's the refrain? Lock your doors.
Police detained the apartment resident for questioning.

Charges were filed Monday against an Iona man who allegedly broke into a house in the middle of the night and entered the bedroom of a 17-year-old girl while she was sleeping.

Bradley Wayne Boje, 27, is facing charges of first-degree burglary, fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, interference with privacy, trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to the Murray County Sheriff's office incident report, dispatch received a call at 12:05 a.m. Saturday from the teenage girl, who said she was sleeping in her room when a noise woke her up.

Someone turned on her light, she allegedly reported, and she saw Boje standing in her bedroom.

Her father allegedly heard someone go down the stairs and close the front door, so he got out of bed and began to look around the house. He heard a vehicle start and looked outside to see a pickup head down the road by his residence.

A deputy entered the city of Iona and met the father at an intersection. The man told the deputy Boje was driving a pickup with one tail light. Just then, the man said, "There he is" and pointed.

Busy week for home invasions and hot burglaries.

Dog alerts family about intruder in home

The Treichel family of Cambridge didn't need convincing. They'd already fallen in love with Izzy, the Australian Shepherd they adopted in February.

But what Izzy did at 3:00 Sunday morning has earned her family's gratitude for life.

"She just jumped up on our bed and started growling," says Maggie Treichel about the unexpected wake-up that greeted her and husband Tom.

Their bedroom door was closed, but Izzy seemed to sense something on the other side.

"She knew something was wrong," says Maggie.

Within seconds Tom was standing at his daughter's doorway staring that something in the face. "It was a silhouette of a man sitting in a chair next to my daughter's bed."

Thankfully, this ended well.
Tom turned on the light and soon realized the man seemed pretty scared himself. "I just kept asking him 'What are you doing in my daughter's bedroom? What are you doing in my daughter's bedroom?' and he just didn't have anything to say.

Maggie called 9-1-1, while Tom made sure the intruder would be waiting when police arrived. "He made a quick dart for the door but I was standing right by him and I was able to grab him and put him onto the ground and told him he wasn't going anywhere."

There are better ways to hold an intruder for the police. Possibly none as satisfying as beating him to the ground.

Scary. Bound and helpless is not a situation I want to be in.

Update:
Reynolds tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS what makes the home invasion more disturbing, is the fact their police department is approximately 100 feet away from the apartment.

Man charged in two burglaries in Austin

6/3/2009

http://www.postbulletin.com/newsmanager/templates/localnews_story.asp?z=28&a=402382
A 23-year-old Austin man appeared in court Tuesday for allegedly burglarizing two southwestern Austin homes in the past month while the residents were there.

Hot burglaries come with a feeling of violation entirely different from a regular burglary.
On Monday, police Lt. John Mueller said there were no signs of forced entry in the burglaries.

Lock your doors, please. Especially when you aren't awake to protect yourselves.
